New Fairfield, CT
Located on the New York border, with the City of Danbury to the south, the Town of Sherman to the north, and Candlewood Lake to the east, New Fairfield is a community of approximately 14,000 residents, and 25.1 square miles. It was incorporated in 1740. It is the home of Squantz Pond State Park, Ball Pond and beautiful Candlewood Lake. It is a well-known summer vacation community. Major commuting routes include State Routes 37 and 39 and Milltown Road, Fairfield Drive, and Haviland Hollow from New York State. New Fairfield also offers a shuttle to MetroNorth trains from various locations in town and even has its’ own police and fire departments.
New Fairfield is known for its excellent schools, reasonable taxes, good recreational facilities, and great commuting routes to Westchester County and lower Fairfield County. Located on the shore of Lake Candlewood, it is a place of uncommon natural beauty in all seasons.
The New Fairfield Town Park swimming facility is located at 180 Route 39. It is a seasonal facility which opens for weekends only on Memorial Day weekend. The beach opens for week days, Monday through Friday, at the close of the school year and remains open through the Labor Day weekend. Residents are able to purchase a season pass and daily guest passes are also available for purchase through the New Fairfield parks and recreation department.
The New Fairfield Town Marina is adjacent to the Town Beach. It consists of 150 boat slips which are leased on an annual basis to New Fairfield residents through the NF Parks and Recreation department.
Chatterton Point Marina provides boat service and sales.
Squantz Pond State Park is the only state park on Squantz Pond or Candlewood Lake. The beach, swim area and main park grounds, along with hiking trails along the Pootatuck State Forest, are along the shores of Squantz Pond, which is adjacent to Candlewood.
Squantz Pond State Park has a boat launch, giving visitors access to boating on Squantz Pond.
Ball Pond is a beautiful, tranquil lake located on the western side of New Fairfield on Ball Pond Road and Ball Pond Road East. The pond is used for boating (no motors) by the residents living in that area. There is a community beach maintained by the Ball Pond Association. The land trust created walking paths along the pond on Ball Pond Road East where you can sit and enjoy the spectacular view of sunsets, paddle boarders, kayakers and nature’s beauty.
Hidden Valley Nature Center and Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center are both located in New Fairfield and provide residents and visitors acres of open space, wooded areas, and hiking trails. Great Hollow runs educational programs for adults and children throughout the year.
